We had a strange and very short half hour class. We discussed the end of The Kite Runner and did a What if activity. Finally, Ms. Wray briefly talked about our final and what was on it. She gave us the Lost Quest Archetype handout and a Hero Journey handout. Apologies for the shortness of the scribe, but we did not do much.

Today in class we had a great time! We started off with a journal write about The Kite Runner and then we discussed our answers in class. We talked about Amir's decision to go back to Afghanistan and all of the plot twists that are currently going on in the book. After we talked about the plot twists we read the "Abraham Story" in our table groups. When we finished reading, we compared The Kite Runner to other Biblical allusions that we have read this year. Each table made a small poster of all the allusions they could think of and shared them with the class. Finally, when we were done with all of that we read for fifteen minutes and Ms. Wray passed back our Living History Papers. Right as she handed them out the bell rang and everyone scattered to lunch or third period.

Field Hubbell Last class period we started by having a five-minute discussion in our table groups about what happened in pages 143-202 in The Kite Runner and what we thought what the most important event was. We discussed what we talked about at our tables with the whole class, and some important events we came up with were the death of Baba, that Amir and his wife can’t have kids, and the fact that Rhahim Khan is dying. After some discussion we mostly all agreed the most important event was Amir getting on the plane to fly back to Pakistan, and that it was the biggest milestone in the reading. After that we each got a piece of paper. Pink represented career, yellow was education, green was courtship and dating, and salmon was adoption and parenting. We divided the paper in two with one side representing Afghan customs, beliefs and attitudes, and the other was American customs, beliefs and attitudes. After writing down all the examples we could think of on our own, we got into our groups according to the piece of paper we had and went over what we wrote as well as added to our lists. Then as a group we came up with a statement about how our customs are different from those of the Afghan customs, and why it is important to the book. We then shared these with the class and after a long discussion, we handed in the papers.Homework: Read pages 203-258 in The Kite Runner

Today in class we took a quiz on chapters 1-11. It was really easy! But of course you had to read the book, otherwise it would have been hard. We also had a discussion on the author's background and the map/hisotry of Afghanstan(I think I spelled that wrong..). We also worked on a character moral code activity on the characters of the book (Baba, Amir, Ali, and Hassan). We weren't given the chance to read in class, but that was okay, because in class we got a better understanding as to what was going on, like the relationship between Amir and Baba and how it is changing. It was a short class, but we got alot of things done.
Homework: Read to page 202

Class started today with a bang. Literally! There was a fire drill, and Mrs. Wray screamed which entertained the class for a few seconds before heading outside to the parking lot. Once everyone was back in the classroom we grabbed our journals for a journal write. There were four questions on the smartboard about The Kite Runner so far. Those questions were: ~Is Amir a friend to Hassan? Why or why not? ~What prevents Amir from being a good friend to Hassan?
~How do we see the notion of sacrifice expressed in the novel so far?
~What is one observation you have and one question?
After we finished writing our responses, we started a class discussion covering the questions. Our class really disagreed with Amir's choices so far in the story. (Not everyone, but most people). Once the discussion was wrapped up, we watched a short clip on kite running since none of us really knew what that was. Then we were given the last twenty-five minutes of the class period to read.
Homework: Read pages 80-149 in The Kite Runner by next class

Today in English we learned a really important lesson. DONT EAT IN CLASS!!
First we discussed some parts of The Kite Runner that were not really "G" rated that happened in the first few pages. Then we talked about how there will be more of this kind of stuff so we have to be ready for it. Then Ms. Wray handed us a sheet that had three boxes and we had to fill the first one it with what our values are, the second was we had to put and incident where we broke those values, and the third one with the consequences of that action. After that we learned through not a very friendly manner that FOOD WOULD BE NO LONGER ALLOWED IN CLASS!
Then we did an activity where we had to write things that we knew about character on a sheet of paper with that characters name or place on it. Then when there was 30 minutes left in class the teaching ended and we had that full time to read The Kite Runner.
HW: Read to page 79 in The Kite Runner

So today in Class we had a sub named Mr Kane. The first thing that we did was assemble our history papers into packets with the drafts, narrator worksheet, work cited information, and attribution of research. After that Mr Kane came and collected all of our packets as well as our final papers that were due today. After that we got ready for the A Separate Peace test. During that time Mitch and Hannah played rock paper scissors in which Mitch got dominated by hannah and his family was dishonored. After that we started the test. After we all finished the test we worked quietly on other things until 10:45 and then we headed to the library and picked up kite runner and from there we were excused.

Today we continued with our visual presentations. We talked about the character development of Finny and Gene. We also discussed the themes and the metaphors with the character names. We then watched this really weird video that Jake showed us... something about how unborn babies explode out of mothers... ya it was weird. Anyways, we got our rough drafts back and she checked our attribution of research and works cited. The FINAL IS DUE NEXT CLASE. We added somethings to our study guides that weren't extremely helpful unless you READ the book. So I offer advice for the test monday, READ the book. Oh, I'm supposed to shout out to Hannah and Danielle for some reason... so ya. Next we went over formatting for our final papers. If you need help check the links on the wiki and homework page. They are for things like, formatting, dialouge, works cited, attribution of research. There also is the point layout for our paper. Anyways it was a pretty normal day.

Today Mrs. Wray collected our rough drafts, and she will read through them and revise them for us. Then she commented on my eyebrows, and how fabulous they looked. We had a discussion about A Seperate Peice, as well as a journal write. Then we got into groups and started an activity for it that we will finish next class.

-See draft of attribution and research and revise works cited (alphabet sources!)
-ASP exam Monday (scantron, short answer, and we can probably use our books, we were given a study guide in class also!)

Today we started off class by getting our rough drafts out. We had to underline the facts in our paper if we hadn't already done that. We then got a handout which was an example of an Attribution of Research handout that was made by Andrew Croy. After that everyone got a partner and did peer editing on our rough drafts. Everyone had to read their partners paper and answer some feedback questions about it. Then we got to pick our own groups and you either got assigned Gene or Finny from the book. We had right how the characters are different from at the beginning of the book then answer some questions.

Today when we go to class Ms. Wray went around the room and gave everyone a slip of paper with either chapter 5, 6, or 7 and question on it. Then we were told to get into groups based on which chapter we had. After we had answered all the questions as a group, we got reassigned into groups which had people from each chapter in them. In our new groups we reviewed the questions we answered about our chapter. We then had a brief discussion of what the 2 rivers at Devon symbolize. After that we had the rest of the period to work in the english lab on out living history projects.

Mikey Gallagher Today was like any other day in B2 English class except it wasn’t. We started off the day with a reading check over chapters 3 and 4 that we were supposed to read last night for homework. After we turned the quizzes in we went over the answers to them. Then we had a brief discussion of the chapters that we read, 3 and 4. We really didn’t talk about the chapters very much we only talked about what happed to Finny at the end of chapter 4. After discussing what happened it was time to start our rough drafts of our living history papers. Ms. Wray gave us instructions on how to use dialogue in our papers and she gave us example of how to start them. After that we spent the rest of the class working very hard writing our rough drafts. Homework: Read chapters 5, 6, and 7 from ASP Rough draft of living history paper due Wednesday 5/12

Today in B2 english, many people were nervous because we had a Vocab Quiz and a reading check over chap. 1-2 of A Seprate Peace.
We took the Vocab quiz first, then shortly after we did the reading check. The reading check was three questions. After the two quiz's we got into a large class agrument led by Stefan about the main character (Gene) being gay... After that, we completed the Think in Three's worksheet about either Gene or Finny. Mostly everyone wrote one of their descriptive words about these characters on the smartboard. We finished up class with a journal write on one of the quotes from A Seprate Peace that you had a strong opinion on.
HW: -Vocab #16 sentences
-Read Chapters 3 and 4 of A Seprate Peace (I would be prepared for a book check, just in case)
-Bring all pieces of Paper for next time to begin drafting
4/28/10
When we first got to class Ms.Wray gave us a note check on our notes so far. Then we used the majority of the class to begin our story planning. After this we were given groups and each group was assigned a word that has to do with the new story we will be starting. The book is called A Separate Peace. We will start this book next class. The only homework we had was to finnish our planning sheet if you had no completed it in class and other then that just make sure you continue to research if you don't feel like you have enough information and even if you have your 5 sources already.
4/26/10 And so ends another FABULOUS Monday morning in English. We started off class with Ms. Wrays’s amazing vanishing act as Mr. Kane (a.k.a “Kane” you don’t have to call him Mr. because no one ever did) took over and started class. Danny went around and stamped the Narrator worksheets that were due today. Then Kane gave a quick lesson on how to use Word and some of the outstanding features such as indenting, capitalizing, and double spacing. After that we went to the Library to work on a rough draft of our bibliography. We were in the lab for the rest of the period and everyone turned in a copy of their rough draft with 3 sources by the end of class. And that pretty much sums up today’s English class. Btw: Mikey says Lindsay should get extra credit for having the scribe done before class is over, and I don’t think Kane disagrees.
HOMEWORK:
-Have a total of 5 sources by next class.

today was another day in the absence of Mrs. Wray but we did have Mrs. R as our substitute so it was an interesting thing to say the least. She started off class by informing us that we would be starting our state testing next time. We then talked about how she is remodeling her house and how she makes color coated lists every day for the contractor to complete. After that she took role and we did a quick review about appositives after which we took a short quiz on which was very strait forward. After that Mitch M tried to draw a picture of hanna but it ended up looking like she was a fat and angry native american with a pony tail. After that she told us that we needed five sources on our final paper (only 2 of them can we websites [things like world book not included] and you must have a print source). After that we went into the lab and continued our research for our topics until the end of the class.

Of course, a day without Ms. Wray is always a sad one, but we managed. We started out class by turning in our homework, a participle worksheet and our topic proposals (<--That was an appositive. Extra credit?). We then proceeded to read an example of the papers that we are about to write. We read And the Wall came Tumbling Down by Cindy Heckenlaible. I counted 5 spelling errors, but it still was a really good story, and I would say that it sufficiently intimidated most of us. We then discussed the idea of merging (participle-->) researched facts and creative writing. After that, Ms. Skelly's instructions said that the librarian was supposed to come talk to us, but she did that last class, so we moved on and didn't hear the presentation again. Then, we spent the rest of the period in the computer lab researching for our papers. English class was amazing as usual, but, of course, it would have been even more amazing if Ms. Wray was there.

Today we started class off with a joural entry. Free write #18. We then worked on a worksheet on participles and participle phrases. Then we read our think pieces to fix any errors if we had any . Ms. Wray told us if our think pieces were error free she would give us five points extra credit. After that Ms. Wray introduces us to a new project, The Living History Research Paper. At the end of class we were showed possible websites we could use to find information for our paper.

Today we took a vocab quiz to start of the day, and discussed our venn diagrams. We then were given the directions for a Think paper, and did one as a class about the setting in Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing. Next, we learned about participles and did a journal with them. Sorry for the briefness, but Ms. Wray gave me the honor on the way out the door today.

Happy April fools day everyone. So today we started class of by having some people present their macbeth projects that were due today to the class. There actually some very creative projects i would have to say. Then Ms. Wray showed us some funny childrens book covers that she found on a online post. I forgot the name but some examples of the covers were:
Gay-time painting
It hurts when i poop
Who cares about disabled people
After all that fun stuff, we reviewed and discussed a little bit about what had been happening in the movie up to the point where we stopped. Then we watched the movie for pretty much the rest of the class period. Then we recieved a big piece of paper and drew a venn diagram compare and contrast the the movie and book on character, setting, conflict, plot, language and subject matter.

So today we started off by talking a bit about our Spring Breaks, and how many people were a lot tanner then when they left last Friday. Particularly Kat, and particularly not Jason nor I. Gotta love Spring Break in Lake Oswego! Oregon rain is the BEST. Then Ms. Wray told us about the new requirements for one of the options for the Macbeth creative project, the Facebook page. They are in the homework section of her website, and she also informed us that if you are doing the Facebook, when you add her, be sure to include your name in the message, otherwise she won't know who you are. We also reviewed the questions that we did last time about Macbeth on the worksheet for the people who were super lucky and got to go on vacations before school ended for the week. If you were gone, be sure to answer the questions and write a one-page response answering either the inductive or beyond the text questions. We then started the Shakespearean comedy "Much Ado About Nothing", which we watched for the rest of class. It is a love story set in Italy, which is super pretty. At the end of class we discussed gender roles in Shakespeare's times, about which we got a worksheet. Also, Ms. Wray talked to us about Honors English and if you want to apply you better pick up a packet from her STAT!
Homework:
-Study for the vocab quiz, which is Monday March 5th

Today was like any other day in period B2 English class. Except that it was the last day before spring break and everyone was crazy and didn’t want to do anything during class. Everyone was more preoccupied with the NCAA basketball games that were being played. Ms. Wray finally showed us the video of her son snowboarding at the mountain doing 360’s. Eventually, Ms. Wray made us get our journals out and made us write about what we thought about the end of the book. After writing for about 5-10 minutes we discussed the end of the book as a class. After we were done discussing the end of the book we turned in our finished motif charts and reading log responses. After that Ms. Wray handed out a question sheet and everyone wrote down questions that would help with the beginning of our discussion group. At the end of the period we got into a circle and had a discussion and answered everyone’s questions. Ms. Wray said that we did an excellent job and that our discussion was very thorough. That brought us up to the end of class and everyone was excited because there was only two more periods left in the day until spring break. Unfortunately, we have homework over spring break but it is not that hard. Homework: Study for vocab quiz #13- April 5th

We got to class and it is just like any other day. As a group, we summerized each act in a sentence on a piece of paper. After that i remeber going up to the front of the room to have my pre-arranged abscence from signed. Nikki kept throwing my form on the ground so she could go first.. I wasnt happy about that. Then as the period progressed we read most of the play and watched scenes from act 5 scene 1. They were all kind of creepy. Oh and we skipped scene 2 because its not very important according to Ms. Wray. It was also Jasons Birthday today.
HW: -Finish reading the play
-last reading log #5 and have all 7 next class
-also finish your motif sheet

Class started just like every other day. We all enter the class and the conversation on what scrupulous means begins to ring through the class. This was followed by the sudden realization by the class that there was a vocab test...with almost all the words...people started rumaging through there bags looking for the lists they had all printed off. But I was to preoccupied to do such thing. I was staring down at the pink sheet of death, also known as the scribe sheet. After a moment of panic the quiz was passed out and we finished that. After that we got our journals for some write of some kind. Oh yeah remember the good and bad pictures, they came back to haunt us. So then we wrote a paragraph on if Macbeth was evil or good. After a quick conversation on that, the bell rang and we all left class like every other day.

So first when we were in class Ms. Wray checked our homework and stamped it. Then we talked for a little bit about scribe notes and the new policy that Ms. Wray has which is this: if you turn in your scribe notes the day you had class you get 1 point extra credit. (ahem) If you turn in your scribe notes the day after class you dont get graded down, but you also won't recieve extra credit. If its two days after class you will get 0 points. I thought this seemed important so there ya go. Then afterward we watched part of the Polanski version which was a little creepy with Banquo's ghost and all. Then after that was over we discussed for like 2 seconds cuz no one really had much to say. Then we read Act 4 Scene 1-2 and Ms. Wray told us some of the REALLY nasty things that the witches put in the potion thingy. It was gross and disgusting. Then we played this game to help with vocab. Thats pretty much class today.

so i guess i wont be getting any bonus points for getting this done on time. bummer. well first we collected our Macbeth letters where we wrote from either Macbeth to Lady Macbeth or the other way around. Next we looked at creative Macbeth project/assignments that for us are due on April 1st, then we wrote in our journal about act 3 scene 4 which we were supposed to use and we looked at how the use of repetition adds to the scene's mood. and then we listened to scenes 5 and 6 on the tape. Then after that we split up into scene groups to make out living pictures of our assigned scenes. Sorry this is so brief and boring, i just want to get it out as quick as i can so people dont get mad at me for getting this out too late

3/5/10 Danny. Okay so i was honestly going to do this right after school on Friday (extra point anyways?), because i had tennis practice so i had nothing better to do till 4. But then i had absolutely no idea how to edit this page and i was not happy so i went and got some Subway instead. eat fresh. anyways. On Friday we started off well. I walk in and Ms. Wray is making fun of him for playing chess, which led to the whole class making fun of him for playing chess. but to be honest i play chess too so i cant really talk, i just thought it was funny that ms wray was making fun of him. After that, ms wray must have just wanted to make us feel bad because then she told the whole class that every one did well on the vocab quiz except one person. then she looked at me... uhhh anyways. Then she told us what our hw was that is due on Tuesday, it is to read 3.4 and to write a letter from the point of view of either macbeth or lady macbeth to the other that is 1/2 page minimum. After that ms wray went around and stamped our hw while our table groups were discussing it. Then i asked ms wray to come to my tennis matches because she is awesome and i am pro at tennis (metaphor extra points). Then we read Act 3 scene 2. i would tell you what happened but thats completely blanking me right now for some reason? then we were talking about lying for some reason and we found out that ms wray shouldnt have her license because she CHEATED on the test!!! then we kept reading through Act 3 Scene 3. I feel like we did more, but i have no idea what it was because this is all that i have on my sheet sooooo? It was Danielle's B-Day on Sunday so happy birthday danielle! <(") Okay thats basically it. Its snowing outside but probably not sticking... of course. Oh and Ms Wray! please let me and Arthur have a chess duel in class! Okay thanks :). HW: Read 3.4 and write a 1/2 page minimum letter from either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth to the other one.

Today when we got to class, we basically sat down and got right back up again to change seats. Once we were moved in to our new spots we went over a few vocab words before the quiz. Then we took the vocab quiz. It was short and pretty easy if you knew the words. (Like always). When everyone had turned in their quizzes, Mrs. Wray stamped our reading logs and then gave us an appositives worksheet to complete. It was only four questions and it was just to make sure everyone got how to use appositives. We then went over act 2 scene 4 which is what we were supposed to read outside of class. It was a table group/class discussion on how nature reacted and changed after Duncan's death and the importance of the scene. Then we moved right into reading act 3 scene 1 aloud in class. During this scene Macbeth has a long silioquie <---not spelled right so of course Mrs. Wray had a worksheet for table groups to complete so we could all analyze what Macbeth was saying. And that pretty much wraps up the day!
Homework: the worksheet about Macbeth's persuasion technique. Don't know what else to call it.

On Thursday we had Mr.Bertram as a sub I am not sure why Mrs. Wray wasn't there but it might have had something to do wih the cup circle things on her back (or she was just sick). We started off by doing a quick journal write of what Macbeth was thinking in act 2 scene 1 and we decided that he was nervous and partially insane. then we read Act 2 Scene 2 of Macbeth and answered some discussion questions about it. After that we got in groups and did our own renditions of act 2 scene 2 just like we did for act 1 scene 1 when we picked different settings and time periods.

We then turned it in. afterwards we read the next two scenes in macbeth. the first scene we talked about macbeth and him contiplating whether or not to kill Duncan. Towards the end of the period we did an activity where half of the class read the scene while the other half screamed murder everytime macbeth intended on saying murder but used different words. its kinda hard to explain but all it did was help us understand his lines better.

So first we got our homework stamped, then we lined up in order of our birthdays and got into groups of 4. We all were assigned lines and then we summarized what happened in the story starting on page 23. Then we read all of Act 1 Scene 4 and answered questions in our group on the Act. Those questions were
1. come up with a title for this scene
2. identify the dramatic irony in the scene
3. what proclamation does Duncan make regarding his eldest son? Why is this so important?
4. Translate Mcbeth's lines 55-60 in modern language.
Then we read act 1 scene 5 and talked about who you would cast for Lady Mcbeth and Mcbeth in a movie. And lastly we read act 1 scene 6 and looked for double meaning words.

Today, we started off with the SAT question of the day. We then got our finals handed back to us, and dicussed main themes and important quotes of "The Red Wagon" by Malcolm Cowley. After that Ms. Wray gave us markers and a piece of white computer paper. We folded it in half, hamburger style, and labeled one half "good" and one half "evil." Ms. Wray then gave us the instructions to draw whatever we thought of when we thought of those words, and to be sure we think about color. After we handed in our beautiful drawings, we watched another group present their interpretation of the excerpt from "Macbeth", and Ms. Wray revealed that the queen is one of the characters, which I think most of us missed. Next, we each got a slip of paper with a line from a soliloquy, and formed a circle in order. We read through the lines one time, just reading them normally. Then we read again, this time putting emotion into it. The last time, we read with emotion, and added in a gesture. I think we can all agree Richard's was the best. To end that great class, we went and got our "Macbeth" books from the library.

Today, we had a substitute. Her name was Ms. Burnett, she had me and Richard rock paper scissors for the scribe. Class started off by taking roll and filling out a form that evaluated our first semester and how it went for each of us. Next, we got a connotation/denotation/cadence worksheet that we were asked to fill out to the best of our ability. Then volunteers were asked to go up and read a phrase that were on the worksheet. We then analyzed the way people spoke and what was implied with how they spoke. The last thing we did was get into groups of 4 or 5 to act out a scene. In our groups we had to figure out how we wanted to interpret the scene and how we were going to act it out. Only two of the groups got to go today, and the remaining groups will go next time.

Isn't it weird writing 10 at the end of the dates now? Ya I think so. Ok so anyways we turned in our poems and then took the vocabulary quiz. Mrs. Wray then read so peoples poems and mitchell davis' by far dominated the rest. And Lindsey dominated america. Then we had more poem recitations such as tanner and hannah doing rob frost and others. Danny took a stand by refusing to memorize his in a stunning personal decision. Then we had an activity where we discussed how to write papers and looked over Christy's paper which was amazing. Finally we got all of our paper's back as class ended.
The homework is simple but VERY important

2. The final contains vocab, poetry terms, loss-quest archetype, and a poetry analysis.

At the beginning of class Ms. Wray remembered that she had made a new seating chart for us, and we all got new seats. After we were all in our new seats and in our new table groups we began to talk about the trip to Ashland where you can see three plays and miss one day of school. Woohoo! And if you want an information sheet, or sign up sheet thing then just go to Ms. Wray's room and they should be on the back counter. If you can't find them, just ask her. After we finished talking about the Ashland trip we went over what will be on the final. For the final you should know the words on vocab lists 1-9. You should know Poetry terminaology for the final and then there will be a poem analysis on the final as well. Fun stuff! After we were done talking about the final we began to read Neruda's poem, "I'm Explaning a Few Things." That went well, until Ms. Wray flipped over the poem, and realized that the end of the poem hadn't made it to the back of the paper. So she had to pass out the poem again, but this time with the end of the poem on the backside of the paper. While Ms. Wray read the poem we circled words that stood out to us, and then we answered questions with our table groups about the poem. Then after we were done with Neruda's poem we did a brainstorming sheet with one partner for a poem that we have to write. First you have to choose a strong opinion you have. Then you have to find a partner and have them write down words you say that go with your strong opinion. I'm not the best pereson to give instructions, so that probabily seems confusing. I don't know though. After we were done, and when there was only about 10-15 minutes left of class did we begin to recite our poems that we had to choose and memorize. Only about 5-6 people went. That was our day in Ms. Wray's awesome B2 english class :)

We started of class with a free write, which is Nikki's favorite as everyone knows. Then we lined up on the back wall according to our favorite fruits so we could be split up into groups. However, this soon led us to start talking about dingleberries.....if you weren't there don't worry about it. Then we did vocabulary maps for list #9, and everyone had interesting ways of grouping the terms. Then going back to our seats Stefan spilled water all over Reagan's hair because he thought the cap was on, when it clearly was not. After that mess got cleaned up we practiced our poems with tone, and looked at Harlem (A dream deffered) by Langston Hughes; along with a nike commercial that used the poem and another video. Finally, to end class we started reading our poems to find different areas of tone (intense here, but sad there), and mapped it out on our poems.

Wednesday's English class was really fun. Ms. Wray was still her energetic self even though she is going through a "caffeine cleanse," and I know everyone is really proud of her for quiting. To start off class we turned in our poem analyses. After turning those in we took the vocab quiz. It wasn't very hard for the people that studied, but for those who didn't it was pretty tough. When the test was over we took out our planners, and Ms. Wray explained the homework while we wrote it down. When that was over Ms. Wray walked around with a bowl of numbers from one to five. Everyone drew one and went to the table with their number on it. The table groups ended up being our poetry groups for the day. When we got to our seats Ms. Wray explained the five types of poems we would be creating over the next hour or so. We got about eight minutes to write each one. After we wrote each poem we shared them with our table groups, and some brave kids read them to the class. One of Jason's poems was so deep and emotional Ms. Wray cried. Everyone was really touched by that piece of poetry. As we were finishing our fifth and final poem the bell rang and everyone either ran to lunch or their next class. It was a successful day with Ms. Wray and sophomore English.
Homework:
-List 9 vocab sentences (remember to underline the word in the sentence)

Whats up everybody on monday we started class with the SAT question that everybody missed but Ms. Wray. Then she got mad at me for not having my homework and called me out in front of the class (thanks Ms. Wray). Then we learend stuff about sentences and fragments. Then we corrected our writing complete sentences worksheet. Then we pulled andom words from a bowl and got in groups with our words. Each of the words related to writing in some way, so we found definitions and examples for the things. Then we presented them in front of class. Then we looked at the scoring guide of the poems, and some people started theyre poem analysis paper. Most of us just sat there and talked.

Oh my goodness. I don't think anyone could say that Texas did not play amazingly, considering the circumstances.
Oh ya--English class...
I got assigned the scribe notes a bit late in class, so I don't have the details of the very beginning of class.
So the first real thing we did in class was a journal write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that, it was 3 in 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know how ecstatic we all were about this, especially because it was about everyone's favorite subject: poetry (woohoo). Somewhere during the journal write, Ms. Wray told us that she had a caffeine overdose, and she told us about the time that she had 23 cups of coffee one night. Back to the subject... We had to talk about what poetry was, what our opinion of poetry is, and what the point of poetry is. Ms. Wray's favorite definition of poetry came from Mitch, who said that it was the best words in the best possible order. There were many different opinions. I don't really enjoy studying poetry, but it could be worse... I mean... At least we're not doing something crazy and objectionable like, say, studying the bible... Okay, back to the topic, that was uncalled for.
After that, we watched the poetry video again because it was so amazing. Then we started looking at our own poems, and we counted the words. Richard's poem had fewer than 20 words, and I'm pretty sure most of the class joined him in our fear that we hadn't done what we were supposed to. Then Ms. Wray told us that it was fine as long as all of the words were as powerful as possible. Unfortunately, the majority of us did not use the most powerful words, so we had a storytime. During storytime, Ms. Wray read us a book about words that sound cool, and how you should name your elephant "Deuteronomy." That book inspired us to come up with our favorite sounding words, and we put them on a really big poster. Then we used them in our poems, and made them even more awesome.
After some people shared their poems, Ms. Wray told us what we all wanted to hear: we were writing another poem. Much grumbling then ensued. These new poems consisted of a slightly modified proverb/adage/saying and at least five of the words: Cliff, needle, voice, whirr, blackberry, cloud, mother, and/or lick. We only had 6 minutes to write the poem, so we weren't allowed to think. I'm pretty sure most of us don't think anyway, so that wasn't a terribly difficult task.
After we finished with that poem we only had a couple of minutes left in class but we still managed to get a worksheet about run on sentences and sentence fragments that we were supposed to do as homework and yes this is a run on sentence on purpose.

Welcome back to school! After talking about how nice everyone's winter break was, we began class by rereading and discussing (as a class) the poems from our poetry packet that was handed out last class. We mainly discussed the meaning of each poem and how they related to the loss-quest archetype. After the review, we got a new assignment; to write a three column poem. To do this, we divided a sheet of paper into three columns. In the first we had to list five emotions, in the next column we wrote five random colors, and in the final column we wrote down five different objects. Then we created a metaphor using one word from each column using this format: emotion is a color object (if that makes sense). On the back of the paper we wrote a rough draft ten line poem using our metaphor. We finished class by passing back our narrative essays, which Ms. Wray told the class we did a great job on.

The friday before winter break we had Mrs. Rathbum as a sub and she broughtus candy which was pretty awesome. We started the class off by watching the three guys video about asking people to winter formal. Then we watched a video of last years finalists in the poetry out loud competion. We practiced our own poems by reading them to a partner. We finished the class by filling out the poetry packet we read for homework the class before.

So on Monday we had a substitute Ms. Rathbun. Shes an awesome woman. Mostly because she came over to me and complimented me on my amazing bubble blowing skills. and then we studied our vocab lists for the quiz next class. we split up into groups and each group was assigned a word to describe and create a visual for to help us learn the words. we had to draw an example of the word and an example of the opposite of what the word means. Then once we were done with our posters we walked around the room and looked at the other posters made for the different words, i guess this was supposed to help us learn the words but i personally didnt get much out of it. After that we just sat and watched of mice and men.

Today we started off english by writing down our homework. Then Ms. Wray told us that we did a great job on our vocab tests and a lot of us got 20's, or 19.5's. She said our class did the best by far. No big deal. Ms. Wray told us to get out a piece of paper and on it we had to write the purpose of a thesis statement and the nessecary parts of a thesis statment. Once we went over what we wrote, Ms. Wray pulled up examples of good and bad thesis statements for us to identify. After, we got a practice essay prompt and were instructed to work with our table groups to make a thesis statement for it. A lot of people were stuggling and getting off task. Richard was playing with a squash and threatening to hit Mikey with it. Then he told Charlie he could see him through a hole in the squash, which was pretty weird. Anyways, we then had to get into the groups we were in last class and make a poster and present it to the class. During the presentations some people had a hard time focusing and were busy drawing stars and writing things in foreign languages on their posters. Once we finished presenting, class was almost over and it was time to do trivia. The boys answered like 90 questions right and the girls maybe got 1.

On Friday, Ms. Wray's B2 English class was pretty relaxed. We started off talking about how there was a problem with the wiki because the combined quizlet flashcards didn't include the sixth list, so some people didn't study them. Luckily the quiz wasn't until the end of class so people had a little extra time to study. After that we had a 15 minute journal write about Of Mice and Men. When the journal write was completed we talked about the book and answered the questions as a class. During the discussion Ms. Wray showed some examples of foreshadowing that happen in Of Mice and Men, and explained the book in more detail. There were some heated arguements, and some people got a little emotional about the sad ending, but everyone learned a lot from the discussion. After that we drew topics out of a bowl, and the class split up into five groups. We answered questions and drew conclusions about the book. Next class we have to make a poster based on our answers and present it to everyone. And with fifteen minutes left in class we had to take the vocab quiz.

To start off class we looked at 6 different pictures of David (David & Goliath) and we chose the one that we thought depicted David the best, and Mitch M was the only one to choose Davids nudie pic. We then touched up on the story of David & Goliath. Then we did a timeline of the good and bad times of our lives, and found out how awesome Ms. Wray is. We went over the
loss quest archetype of life. Looked at pictures of lifes processes, it had a baby and stuff. We picked up our mice & men book. Ms. Wray then read to us the first scene and we drew it out, and then wrotte 5 words that described it.

Today in English we started class by going over the announcements. Then we did a vocabulary assignment where we had to turn the vocab word we were given into a person. We then had to personify the word. After we did this we read them aloud to the class. After this assignment we went onto an assignment where we answered questions about the "American dream" and "friendship". We then each got one of the characters from Of Mice and Men and had to describe them using single words and and symbol and quotes. That is what we ended up doing until the class ended!

On Friday, we started the class by watching a video made by leadership? Just a guess, about the play-off games and how some people could march there or something. Not quite sure. Anyways, Ms. Wray read the daily log as usual while most of us used that time to study for the vocab quiz. Then we took the quiz, which wasn't too hard if you studied, which is basically how all of the vocab quizes are. After everyone finished their tests, Ms. Wray came around and stamped our homework from last class. There was some confusion with the homework due to the fire drill last time though and some people didn't get it. Despite the confusion we still managed to read through the story as a class and then discuss questions that were put on the smartboard with our table group. That lasted for about 15 minutes and then the discussion was moved to the whole class. We stayed on track for the most part, except when we somehow got on the subject of Ms. Wray's kid screaming for and hour and a half without stopping. This ended with Stefan saying to kill him and Richard saying to put a muzzle on him. Our class is obviously full of great advice. After getting back on track we wrote down the main conflict to the story and then found out our grades on the vocab test. There were basically two responses to people's scores from Ms. Wray: Great job or use quizlet more...

On Wednesday, Ms. Skelly the science teacher was our sub. Unfortunately Ms. Wray wasn’t thereL. Anyways, Ms. Skelly started off by taking role. Then she collected our homework from the night before, which was the Genesis reading and questions. Then she explained to us what a silent discussion was. She told us that we would have five big cards on different tables and we would all just walk around and write down our answers on the big card. It was pretty simple we just didn’t talk the whole time. After our comment/answer for each question we initialed our names so Ms. Wray would know who it was. For the rest of the class we all discussed each question as a class and got into a pretty deep discussion. Then about two minutes before class was over, the stupid fire alarm went off and we had to go outside in the freezing cold. This happened right before Ms. Skelly was about to pass out our homework. So after the fire drill everyone went to 3rd period or lunch so I’m pretty sure not too many people got the homework. But just in case the homework is:

Okay, so on Wednesday in class, we started class of by finishing the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou. Then when we were finished with that we got our assignment for the movie. Just flip over your note taking sheet, read the instructions and you will know what I'm talking about. Pretty simple. Except when you have to turn in your assignment because this is where it gets a little tricky. Especially with me telling you how to turn it in .I'm not very good with intructions, but I'll try my best...
-Go to the Wiki. Pretty simple since you already here.
-Then scroll down until you see EXTENDED DISCUSSION.
-Click on B2 Discussion
-You see the prompt. Its on the back of your note taking sheet.
-Then if you look around near the top of the page, you should see a button, link, something that says DISCUSSION.
-Then you come to a box that says SUBJECT and then under it MESSAGE.
-In the subject box, you put the title of your discussion.
-Then in the message box write you paragraph comparing the two characters
-And since some people make usernames that have nothing to do with their name, at the end of your message, in the message box, put your name.
-Then hit post.
-YOUR DONE
Too bad that isn't your only homework. You also have to do Vocab 5 sentences. Not too bad right? Pretty simple. Oh. And if I confused you in anyway on my intructions..SORRY! I'm not the best person to get intructions from. But I think I did a pretty good job. :D
Oh also in class we got our Odyssey tests back, and if you didn't do very good on your essay questions, don't worry, you'll get to fix them.

So today was probably one of the easiest days of English all year. We started off the day by taking our test over the Odyssey, which everyone said was easy for the most part. Then when everyone was finished Ms. Wray introduced the class to the movie, O' Brother, Where art though?. The movie is based on the Odyssey, and is a modern re-telling of the story. We were also handed a note sheet for the movie (so if you were absent i would make sure you get one). Thats about all for the day.....

At the beginning of class Ms. Wray took role and went over the daily log. She asked how our Halloween was and what we did over the weekend. Unfortunately, she didn’t have that great of a Halloween and neither did her son. She spent all weekend taking care of him because he had the Swine Flu. Wow, how horrible that means he didn’t get to go trick or treating. Then came that moment that none of us were looking forward to, the daily scribe. Unfortunately, she picked me, but I was fine with it because I knew that I had to do it sooner or later. So let’s get back on topic after picking the scribe Ms. Wray handed out the study guide to the test that we have next class. Everyone mooned and groaned because no one likes taking tests. After she handed the study guide out we counted off by fives to see what groups we would be in to study for the test. Every group made a poster that had information on it about one of the sections on the study guide. After about thirty minutes of working on the posters we shared them to the class. Everyone did a fantastic job. This was a great way to study for the test because we all got to learn about each of the different sections. So that wraps up English class for today.

Ok so we started off class on thursday by taking our journals out and reflecting on our own myth presentations. We reflected on our overall performance on our presentation like our strenghts and weaknesses. After that we went over the daily log. After all that Ms. Wray went over upcoming stuff like the vocab sentences and our unit test. For the rest of the period we worked on our narrative essay. Ms. Wray chose partners for us and we exchanged our papers and peer edited them. While we did that, she came around and talked about our papers. Thats pretty much all we did for that day.

10/22/09 simanstefan Sorry if I forgot a few things that happened at the beginning of class I was unaware that I would be scribe. During class tuesday we started with a very interesting run through of the PSAT, I hope you all did better then I think I did. afterwards we went over what we can learn from reading myths, like what was important to those people, religious beliefs, elements of their culture. Then we had some very productive myth group work time, I mostly just got a general idea of what my group was doing and who would do what. when group work was finished Mrs. Wray explained book 13 of the odyssey in depth and tried to make us understand what was happening a little better. Guess what were skipping 6 books in the odyssey I hope that is enough to brighten some ones day. we also got yet another exciting and extremely fun assignment which is to take a goal from our lives and write our very own odyssey. after that class was done and we went off on the rest of our days.
Read Chapter 12
Finish reading your myth

At the beginning of class we went over the day log. After that we went over a green sheet and then did a free write about anything for 15 minutes which felt like an hour. Then Mrs. Wray chose the scribe, which unfortunately was me..... After that harsh moment Mrs. Wray read off who turned in their vocab. Then out came our Odyssey books to go over the nights reading of book 7 and our plot summaries. After that we asked questions about book 7. For the final part of class Mrs. Wray handed back papers and we read some of book 9. What a fantastic day.
I'm pretty sure that the only homework is finish book 9. Good luck 9/28/09

And so ends another fantastic Monday morning of English. If you weren’t there today, you really missed out on a lot of really exciting things (I would describe them in detail here…but you just had to be there, and you weren’t, so….I wont). The day started off with another horrible joke from the mysterious voice coming from the ceiling and was soon accompanied by the announcement that it was time to take the highly anticipated vocab quiz. The room slowly filled with a defensive tone at the mention that ‘you really should know the parts of speech of the vocab words and that there might potentially be like maybe five words on the quiz that actually involve part of speech but you can still complain if you want to’ kind of vibe. Then the quiz was passed out, with an interesting game plan by a few people in the class to buy a few extra minutes of time by mentioning the fact that Ms.Wray’s hair was dyed darker today…(If you didn’t notice, you might want to pay closer attention in class, but we can just pretend like everyone noticed, Ok? OK). Everyone took their quiz in peace and turned it in upon completion to the front of the room. After everyone was done Ms. Wray passed out a blue sheet titled “What’s Important?” The sheet was basically a reading comprehension sheet, where you choose an important line from book five and give the reasons for why it was important to the book and also why it was important to you as the reader, we were given about 10-15 minutes to complete this sheet. At preciously 9:49 am, Ms. Wray sneezed….no one blessed her. Next was time for the Socratic Seminar (Socratic Seminar meaning that we all sit in a big circle and share our opinions of whatever topic comes up). The basic rules for a Socratic Seminar are, refer to text, understand ideas, do not stay confused, stick to the point, don’t raise your hand (this confused a few people), listen, speak up so that everyone can hear you, talk to each other, discuss ideas rather then opinions, and that the group is responsible for the seminar-whether or not we know it or choose to admit it. After we were all clear on the main idea of the seminar, we pushed the tables aside and formed ourselves into a giant circle around the room. Our discussion began, but was then rudely interrupted by the intercom announcing the Senate meeting today. We then continued the discussion, covering all the main events and getting further into detail on some specific points. Then the highlight of the day came when Jason decided it would be a good idea to try and help Ms. Wray out by finishing her sentence, lets just say I don’t think that they were quite on the same page with that brain wave, and we somehow ended up with the mental picture of ‘Athena sticking her hand in Odysseus’s cookie jar?’ yeah that one received a well deserved laugh by everyone in the class, and I have a feeling wont be let go of anytime soon. After we finished our somewhat eventful Socratic Seminar we discussed how we thought it went and maybe some things we could do to improve on it in the future. We then concluded the class by debriefing chapter five. Sorry that this entry is kind of on the long side, but my only other option was to work on actual homework, and I decided that taking my time on this would be a better alternative then that. I am now done writing this entry, and am still left with tons of other homework, was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! –Lindsay Shallman B2 HOMEWORK: · Read Ch 7 · Catch up on the plot summary chart (blue sheet that organizes each ch. with boxes...fill in summary) · Vocab List 2 Sentences are due NEXT CLASS...turn them in via email ·

Sorry for getting this out so late in the weekend, lucky for you this is out early for me, i usually start weekend homework usually sunday night at around 10.
Too bad for me, my "unneeded" comments got me the scribe job for the class. Ill keep them to myself next time.
we started off class talking about the PSAT and how we were going to take it this year. We got a whole packet and there was a practice test we could take if we wanted too. Soon After we had a reading quiz on book 5 of the Odyssey it was a pretty short 5 question quiz but you really had to pay attention while you were reading to get all of the details.
After we reviewed the quiz and went over the answers each table had to list the 5 most important events that happened in Book 5.
We then got to choose "presents" which were actually numbers 1-5 so we could act out each scene without and words. My group got scene 1 where hermes (me) flies in and tells Calypso "Richard" to release Odysseus. Richard as Calypso put on a very tight pink nightgown and found some "Cleavage" to fit the role a bit better.
We then started to give Odysseus adjectives about himself in his head, and each group got a head and filled it in with words. Words like: clever, determined, manly etc.
And heres the Homework: Read book 6; use study guide handout.
Vocabulary quiz next class. Use quizlet.

Today was Tuesday, which is, of course, the worst day of the week. Ms. Wray disagrees with that, but that might be the only thing in the world that she is wrong about. Because I was so depressed about the fact that it was Tuesday, I changed the font to make me more happy.
Okay, about the class... We started the class discussing who actually understood the Odyssey. Most of the class did not. It is quite hard to read, because, frankly, the book was written thousands of years before the language that we're reading it in even existed. So we reviewed strategies to help us understand our books more. Some strategies were to make sure you understand what's going on by reviewing every page or so, removing all distractions, such as Facebook (or perhaps "Shakesbook," according to Ms. Wray), or even reading out loud to yourself. Then Ms. Wray told us the traumatic story about how she poured wine into her coffee grinder. That was about when she realized that we hadn't picked out a scribe yet. So if the first part of this is fuzzy, wrong, or the result of a daydream or something, I apologize. We then talked about epithets, which are descriptive names used in lieu of or in conjunction with regular names. We did this activity where each table group made an epithet for a well known person. Our group's was clearly the best, as everybody got it instantly. What use is an epithet if you have to search around for 10 minutes trying to figure out who it represents? That was probably not the object of the activity, but it is if I want it to be. We then discussed epic similes, which are basically just disgustingly long, drawn out, painful similes. Thank Zeus that each table group didn't have to make one of those. Then, we summarized book one, Spaceballs style (the paper said something along the lines of "The Odyssey: the Summary." And if you've never seen Spaceballs, go out and rent it now). Then each table group summarized a summary of books 2, 3, and 4. While we were doing that, Ms. Wray told us the story of Agamemnon, which is a complete soap opera in and of itself. Apparently Ag's wife, Clytemnestra whose name looks like a jumble word (there's an epithet for you) had a relationship with Ag's cousin, Aegisthus while Ag was at war. When Ag came back, Cly and Aeg murdered him. To make things even more awkward, Ag and Cly's son Orestes killed Cly and Aeg to avenge his father's death. Talk about a dysfunctional family... After that, we took turns reading the beginning of book 5 at our table groups. And then the bell rang. And, as usual, if you missed Ms. Wray's class, depression is justified. Sorry for not having this out on friday, I went to the game... too sad after to do homework.(and its friday)
Today we started with a trivia game over the movie about the trojan war we watched last class. My group did awful though we clearly raised our hands first. Some of the people we identified were Paris, Menemous (check spelling...?) penelope, Odysseus and other gods. Then we did our journal by listing our strengths and weaknesses which I thought was rather difficult because I felt somewhat cocky writing what I was good at and then I didn't want to admit my weaknesses (which may be a weakness in itself). Part two of our journal was to explain when those strengths or weaknesses affected your decision making. Later we took our quiz on the Olympian gods. Mrs. Wray also handed out a sheet which basically was a summary of the Odyssey which I thought nearly ruined the book. We also started reading but only got through the a couple pages. The first 20 lines or so also (just like romeo and juliet) tell the entire story, which takes away the mystery and suspense. Overall it was a grand day.

I really have no idea how i am suppose to do this and i really hope we don't read this in class because I am really bad at typing if its not on Word because it makes all of the corrections for me but i will try. So basically today in class when class started Ms. Wray gave us our assigned seats. After that she told us about the whole "Wiki" thing and how i am the first one to do it. Next after we she taught us how to get and use the wiki website thing she gave us our vocabulary sheets for the semester. The first test on the vocab will be on the September 28. Then we did our first journal write. The journal questions were about myths and what we think they are, and then we talked in our groups about what the "American Myths" are(like Santa or Big Foot). Finally at the end of class we watched a little movie thing about the Olympians and how Troy got taken over and how the Olympians changed what happened. Pretty good day so too bad if you missed it, i mean ever missing a class with Wray-J would be awful(extra credit).

Today in class it was a great day. First we took our vocab quiz, and handed her our quiz. Then last class we were to bring a poem from the website poetyoutloud.org and today we wrote down the title on a piece of paper. Mrs. Wray said " If we wanted to change our poem then do it before next class which is 12/18/09 and bring it to class." The last thing we did in class was finish the movie "Mice and Men." We didnt finish it but we only have about ten minutes left.

Last class period we started by having a five-minute discussion in our table groups about what happened in pages 143-202 in The Kite Runner and what we thought what the most important event was.

Those questions were:
~Is Amir a friend to Hassan?

Today was like any other day in B2 English class except it wasn’t.

4/26/10
And so ends another FABULOUS Monday morning in English.
HOMEWORK:

today was another day in the absence of Mrs.

And lastly we read act 1 scene 6 and looked for double meaning words.

so the first thing we did in english was write down our homework, which is: 1 quote for response log and add to motif chart 2/17...and then the vocab quiz 2/19. Then mrs wray let us look over vocab for a little, then we had a table competition and whoever won got a surprise, but it turned out everyone got the surprise..which was cccannndddyyyyy. After that we read a little bitt.. and thats about it.

Today in English we started class off by getting a strip of paper that had a few sentences on it and we
were supposed to mark the paper where we though there was something missing.
After that we got the real sentences with the missing words in them and we learned about appositives.
After that we started reading MacBeth and we learned that MacBeth is one "BAMF" (as Jason referred to him)

1. final (look of our study guide.
2. The final contains vocab, poetry terms, loss-quest archetype, and a poetry analysis.
for glosasy terms look on the wiki under unit of study or the homework page.
have a wonderful weekend.

OH! I almost forgot. We also did a free write in class after we fixed our essay questions.

Sorry if I forgot a few things that happened at the beginning of class I was unaware that I would be scribe.
Good luck

ABSOLUTELY! –Lindsay Shallman B2

Homework:
· Finish book 5: there will be a reading check next class, so you'd better read it. If you look hard enough on this very website, you will find a study guide.
· Study your vocab: there will be a quiz on Monday.
· Bring Alex $20

HOME WORK:
-10 vocab sentences and 2 other... 1 using the Greek root and 1 using the Latin root
-Study the Olympians for the quiz on Friday

Today in class it was a great day. First we took our vocab quiz, and handed her our quiz. Then last class we were to bring a poem from the website poetyoutloud.org and today we wrote down the title on a piece of paper. Mrs. Wray said " If we wanted to change our poem then do it before next class which is 12/18/09 and bring it to class." The last thing we did in class was finish the movie "Mice and Men." We didnt finish it but we only have about ten minutes left.
Homework:
- Bring poems to class
